spraying permetherin on hiking boots

Make sure to apply permetherin to your clothing in a well-ventilated area.

Wearing tick repellent clothing is the best— and easiest —way for people to prevent tick bites when they venture outdoors. Did you know you can turn your own favorite clothes into tick repellent clothes? Products containing permethrin kill ticks. Permethrin can be used to treat boots, clothing and camping gear and remain protective through several washings.

Permethrin should never be applied to skin; use as directed on the product label. Permethrin is safe for pets when your clothes have dried, but NOT when wet for cats or small dogs. Learn more about protecting your pets from tick bites.

Tick Zone: Avoid areas with forest and brush where deer, rodents and ticks are common. Wood chip barrier: Use a 3 foot barrier of wood chips or rock to separate the 'tick zone' from the lawn. Wood pile: Keep wood piles on the wood chip barrier, away from the home. Tick migration zone: Maintain a 9 foot barrier of lawn between the wood chips and areas scuh as gardens, patios, and play sets. Tick safe zone: Enjoy daily activities such as gardening and outdoor play inside this perimeter. Gardens: Plant deer resistant crops. If desired, an 8 foot fence can keep deer out of the yard. Play sets: Keep play sets in the 'tick safe zone' in sunny areas where ticks have difficulty surviving.Blacklegged ticks (deer ticks) feed on mice in their nests, especially in Spring and Fall. You can buy or make tick tubes to help kill these larva. Tick tubes are cardboard/biodegradable tubes with permethrin-treated cotton. Rodents take the cotton to build their nests, the ticks are exposed to permethrin and killed. All the while, the mice, other mammals and your lands are unharmed and undisturbed.
